An excerpt from Memoirs of a Demon, which is about an old demon who is struggling to write his memoirs, as his compatriots insist he do. “I’m no writer or philosopher or historian,” he tells friends and enemies alike. “Demons live long lives. Long lived, that describes me.”

There are times when the dawn goes missing and night persists into the day. We know in our mind that the sun has physically risen but we cannot always say if it rose boldly or not. We look around, we look out the window and we see that the sun provides light but not in a magnificent way. Sometimes…
